The Korean iPhone 18 Pro is not a cheaper or weaker version. It has the same A20 Pro chip, the same three 48MP cameras with the new variable aperture, the same 6.3-inch display, and the same 150.0 × 71.9 × 8.75 mm body Confirmed. What changes is regional: what Korean regulations require, which networks Korea runs, and which services Apple offers here.
We sell Korean-model iPhones in our five stores in Busan and Changwon, and every figure below comes from Apple's Korean and US spec pages or from published teardowns. Each section answers one question you should settle before you buy a phone sold in another country.

You can check which one you have in Settings > General > About. The part number shown there ends in two letters before "/A", and KH means Korea.
Can I turn off the shutter sound on a Korean iPhone 18 Pro?
No. This is the difference that matters most for daily use. Korean-market iPhones play the camera shutter sound even when the phone is in Silent mode. Owners on Apple's community forums consistently report there's no setting to disable it, and it doesn't change when you take the phone to another country. It's tied to the phone, not to where you are. Japanese-market iPhones behave the same way.
If you photograph documents in meetings, shoot in museums or libraries, or take photos of sleeping kids, think about this before buying a Korean iPhone 18 Pro. You can't fix it later with an update or a setting.
Does the Korean iPhone 18 Pro have a physical SIM tray?
Yes, and this is the main reason some people want one. Apple's Korean spec page lists dual SIM (nano-SIM and eSIM, or dual eSIM) Confirmed. The US model has had no tray since the iPhone 14 and is eSIM only Confirmed.
| Where the Pro model is sold | SIM setup |
|---|---|
| US, Canada, Japan, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Guam, US Virgin Islands | eSIM only |
| South Korea, UK, Europe, Australia, Singapore and most other countries | nano-SIM tray + eSIM |
| China | Two nano-SIM cards supported |
The SIM setup follows where the phone was sold, not where you use it. If you travel a lot and like buying a cheap physical SIM at the airport, a model with a tray is genuinely more convenient. But a Korean model brings the shutter sound with it. A UK or European model gives you the tray without it.
There's a trade-off for the tray. The space goes to the SIM slot instead of the battery. That's why Apple rates the Korean 18 Pro at 34 hours of video playback against 36 hours for the US eSIM model, and the Pro Max at 43 vs 45 hours Confirmed. Reviews written in the US quote the US figures, so take two hours off when you read them for a Korean phone.
Will satellite SOS work on a Korean iPhone 18 Pro?
Don't count on it. Apple Korea's tech specs list no satellite features for the Korean models Confirmed. The US models include Emergency SOS via satellite and related features, free for two years Confirmed. We haven't found any test of whether a Korean unit picks up the feature when used in the US, so treat it as missing.
If you hike, camp or drive through areas without coverage, this alone is a reason to buy the US model.
Will a Korean iPhone 18 Pro work on US carriers?
In most cases a Korean iPhone 18 Pro activates fine on eSIM or a physical SIM, but there are two limits:
- No mmWave 5G. Korea has no commercial mmWave network, and the Korean model runs on sub-6GHz 5G only. In the US, mmWave covers only dense spots such as stadiums and downtown blocks. Most people won't notice, but you lose the very top speeds where it exists.
- Band support varies by model number. Apple publishes LTE and 5G bands for every model on its cellular page. Check your carrier's main bands against the Korean model number before you rely on it.
On the modem: Apple announced its own C2 modem for the 18 Pro line Confirmed. A TechInsights teardown of a US Pro Max (A3473) found a Qualcomm Snapdragon X80 instead (reported by MacRumors, Sep 18). We haven't seen a teardown of a Korean unit, so we can't say which modem it uses.
Korean iPhone 18 Pro vs US model: which one should you buy?
| You are… | Better pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A US resident buying for home use | US model | Cheaper, satellite SOS, no forced shutter sound |
| A frequent traveler who wants a SIM tray | UK/European model, or Korean | Tray + eSIM. The Korean model adds the shutter sound |
| Living in Korea long term | Korean model | Local warranty, Korean carrier support |
| A visitor whose phone broke on the trip | Korean model | Available today. Accept the shutter sound |
The warranty point is easy to miss. Apple's terms allow it to restrict iPhone service to the country of original sale. If you'll live mostly in the US, buying the US model avoids that question entirely. Our guide to buying an iPhone 18 Pro in Korea covers the price math and the tourist tax refund. Whichever model you pick, the box has no charger, and the AVS charger roundup shows which adapters actually reach full speed.
